MPs' Expenses
The issue: I was saddened to see the vote on MPs' expenses. When there was a pension problem for us, MPs voted to increase theirs. Now, when we are going through hard times, MPs vote to keep their expenses, without a proper audit.
Mr Blair said the public had lost interest in politics, sadly we have also lost all respect for our lords and masters in Parliament. Snouts in trough comes to mind.

Date Issue Raised: 05 Jul 2008
My response: Many thanks for the email. I voted for restraint on pay, and therefore to reject the increase recommended by the SSRB. That vote was won and I welcome that. With the economy crumbling around one’s ears, this was no time to vote ourselves more than public sector employees were getting.
On allowances, I spoke in favour of reform and voted for reform. I was sorry we lost. My speech is on my website.

Best wishes, George Young
